Beyond Programme Data Protection
Down District Council, in partnership with the Down Business Centre and South Eastern Regional College (SERC), now plan to implement and launch their new ‘Beyond’ programme, which is a three year project aimed to support and help develop existing businesses within the Down District Council area.
As a result of the innovative and exciting concept behind this project, Down District Council has successfully secured part-funding through the European Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland 2007 – 2013, to implement the new Beyond Programme.
The Beyond programme will be responsible for building stronger relations with
businesses in the district by running business events and mentoring clients in areas that they need help in

IMPORTANT NOTICE – You have a right to know how your personal information will be used when you engage with the Beyond Programme. It is important that you carefully read the following before you sign this form. By signing you are agreeing to and authorizing the use of your information as set out in the terms below.
The Data Protection Act 1998 (“The Act”) came into force on the 1st March 2000. It gives legal rights to individuals (Data Subjects) in respect of personal data processed about them by others. “Others” may include the Data Controller / Data Processor / Recipient or Third Party. Further details can be sourced from the Act or the Data Protection Principles. (Ref 1) The Act also defines categories of “Sensitive Personal Data” and the conditions for processing it. (See schedule 3 of the Act). The Data Controller is required to comply with the Data Protection Principles which are set out in Part 1 of schedule 1 of the Act. (Ref 2) There are 8 Principles in the Act which are referred to as Principles of “good information handling”.
Applying the Data Protection definitions to the Beyond Programme
Down District Council = the Data Controller,
Beyond = a Data Processor; and
The European Union = a Data Processor.
The Beyond project is a programme of business support initiatives to help develop and grow local businesses. DTB is managed by Down District Council, in partnership with the Down Business Centre and South Eastern Regional College. The project is funded by Down District Council and part-funded by the European Union, under the European Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland 2007 – 2013.
NOTICE TERMS: THE USE OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
The above organizations will use your information:
1. to deliver Beyond to you.
2. to monitor the effectiveness of the Beyond Programme.
3. to monitor Equality of Opportunity. Please note that the information contained in the Beyond Operating Manual Appendix 1 Equality Template will only be used for the purpose of monitoring Equality of Opportunity.
4. for audit, compliance and regulatory reporting purposes where there may be disclosure of your information to auditors and, if required, to governmental and non-governmental regulators.
5. and/or in such other circumstances where there is an obligation to do so, or as the law permits,
6. where you have given your consent to the data controller.
Down Business Centre and South Eastern Regional College, and Third Party Organisations such as business support organizations may request to use your information via the data controller for purposes which may be deemed by the data controller to be beneficial for the development of your business.
As Data Controller, Down District Council requires your consent for the use of your data for these purposes. Please tick appropriate box below in signature section.
At any stage you have the right to opt out of making your information available to the Data Controller. Simply write to your Beyond Contact or Down District Council directly.
In addition, upon payment of a fee and by written request to us you are entitled to a copy of the personal data held about you by us, as provided for under the Data Protection Act. You also have the right to require us to correct any inaccuracies in your information.
