Anti Burglary Campaign Continues in Down District

Released: 19 December 2011

The Down District Community Safety Partnership (CSP), Down District Policing Partnership (DDPP), Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and Crimestoppers are continuing to promote the ‘Who’s Eyeing Up Your House’ campaign through Down district.

The key theme of the campaign is to encourage home owners and the wider public to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with information on suspicious activity.

Beer mats have been produced and emblazoned with the key message. Members of the CSP, DDPP and PSNI are distributing the beer mats to bars throughout the district, specifically in hotspot areas for burglary.

Callers to Crimestoppers do not have to give their name or any other personal information and calls cannot be traced. Crimestoppers is an independent charity that can help the PSNI prevent and solve crimes, but it does not form part of the PSNI.

CSP Chairperson, Councillor Mickey Coogan said, “We all need to work together in preventing burglaries in our communities especially on the run up to Christmas. This campaign allows us to continue to get the message out and remind people to watch their property and the property of their neighbours. All suspicious activity can be reported anonymously through Crimestoppers and together we can all have a very happy and safe Christmas.”

DDPP Chairperson, Councillor William Dick added, “This message needs to get out into the local community as much as possible so that we can protect the vulnerable and at risk areas within the district. Rural areas are sometimes the hardest hit and we will be targeting these hot spot areas with this campaign. Look out for the ‘Who’s Eyeing Up Your House’ message on bus shelters, poster, flyers and now on beer mats in your local pub.”
