Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
Waste Material: Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
What can I do with it? Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Recommended Action:
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) covers a huge spectrum of products from computers, printers and faxes, to washing machines, fridges and even fluorescent tubes. Electrical items are marked with a crossed out wheelie bin symbol: this shows you that it is WEEE, and should be recycled correctly. At least one million tonnes of WEEE from domestic and commercial sources are discarded in the UK every year. Therefore, the emphasis is on reducing WEEE.
Reduce: Repair old applicances before buying new items.
Reuse: Donate to your local charity shop or give to a friend. Why not donate the item to Freecycle.
Recycle: When buying a new WEEE, check if your retailer takes back the item for disposal. Otherwise, check if your nearest Household Recycling Centre takes WEEE.
If you are a business and you have WEEE to dispose of you will need to contact a Producer Compliance Scheme or Distributor Take-back Scheme. You may be charged a fee for this disposal.
