Entertainment Licenses

The Council is the authority responsible for the issuing of Entertainment Licences. These Licences are issued under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions Northern Ireland) Order 1985.

A Public Entertainment Licence is required for the following:

    (a) A theatrical performance
    (b) Dancing, singing or music or any other entertainment of a like kind
    (c) A circus
    (d) Any entertainment which consists of or includes any public contest match, exhibition or display of:

    (i) Boxing, wrestling, judo, karate or similar sport
(ii) Billiards, pool, snooker or similar game
    (iii) Darts
(iv) Any other sport or game prescribed under the Order

Public Musical Entertainments held wholly or mainly in the open air and on private land do require a licence. For these purposes:

    (1) An entertainment is musical if music is a substantial ingredient
    (2) Land is private if the public has access (whether on payment or otherwise) only by permission of the owner
    (3) These rules do not apply to garden fetes, bazaars, sales of work, sporting or athletic events, exhibitions or displays of similar functions or to religious meetings or services, merely because music is incidental to them
    (4) These rules do not apply to pleasure fairs
