Down District Council is the lead partner for the Down District New Deal Consortium. This consortium is made up of a variety of training partners, such as East Down Institute, HJ O’Boyle Training, Newcastle Interchurch, Downpatrick Interchurch, YMCA and Enterprise Ulster.
The New Deal Programme in Down District continues to be successful in enhancing the careers of numerous people and securing sustainable employment through the district.
What is New Deal?
New Deal is a key part of the government’s Welfare to Work strategy. It gives people on benefits the support they need to develop their potential, gain skills, experience and find work. It is also a great benefit to local business as it allows them to make use of the untapped energies and talents of a new labour force. Down District Council oversee three sections of New Deal, New Deal for Young people 18 – 24 year olds, New Deal 25 plus and New Deal 50 plus.

- Opportunities for training with work experience in a variety of areas such as: Bricklaying
- Business Administration
- Hairdressing
- Early Years Care & Education
- Food Preparation & Cooking

Eligibility for New Deal
If you are aged 18 – 24 and have been claiming Jobseekers allowance for 6 months or more or if you are 25 years plus and have been on Jobseekers allowance 18 months or more then New Deal may be for you. You may even be able to join earlier.
