To where the mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea...
From high wild mountain passes to rich green pasturelands, curving sandy beaches to picturesque harbours and villages, Down has them all. Sailor, golfer, walker, angler, rider or general sportsperson, you will find relaxation and pleasure in abundance. Whether you've packed the kids' bucket and spade or a pair of stout hiking boots, Down will bring you the holiday of a lifetime. Wander in the footsteps of St Patrick, explore the grandeur of the Mournes, breathe the salt air of Strangford, or feel the sand between your toes on the beaches of Newcastle. It doesn't get any better than this!
Down District Council has two Visitor Information Centres in the District. They are conveniently situated in The Saint Patrick Centre, Downpatrick,
and Central Promenade, Newcastle.
Why not visit our Strangford Lough website to read about it being a place of contrasts, from the exposed outer coast and the fast flowing “Narrows” entrance to the Lough to the calm expanses of the northern sandflats.
