What is the Down District Community Safety Partnership?

Down District Community Safety Partnership is one of 26 Community Safety Partnerships established throughout Northern Ireland. It is responsible for addressing the negative impact that crime, disorder, anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime have on the quality of life for those who live, work in and visit the District.
The key role of the Partnership is to develop and manage local strategies and projects to tackle these problems, on a local level. This involves including the public, voluntary, private and community sectors at a local level. The Partnership meets approximately 10 times a year at the Council offices in Downpatrick.
Who are the members of the Community Safety Partnership?
The Community Safety Partnership is a voluntary partnership that comprises local politicians and partners from the statutory, voluntary and community sectors. Statutory sector Members include: Police, Housing Executive, Fire and Rescue Service, South East Trust, and Down District Council.

Neighbourhood Watch
Neighbourhood Watch is more than just protecting homes and property against burglary. By working together, neighbours can help to reduce all sorts of crimes, antisocial behaviour and even young people causing a nuisance. They can also take action to improve the environment by getting something done about vandalism, graffiti, poor street lighting and a lack of local facilities. Neighbourhood Watch helps to reassure people by reducing the fear of crime and making communities safer places to live and work.
Neighbourhood Watch is also about bringing people closer together by developing a stronger community spirit. Schemes promote confidence within communities that something positive is being done to prevent local crime and improve the quality of life in the area.
